Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India with an introductory starting price of ₹10.32 lakh ex-showroom. The new three-door SUV continues the familiar Thar formula but brings major changes underneath, including a new platform, revised suspension, improved steering, more safety equipment and upgraded petrol and diesel engines.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin from 11 October 2026. Mahindra says the introductory prices will apply to deliveries made until 30 November 2026.

The full line-up includes more combinations than shown above, with rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive layouts plus manual and automatic gearboxes depending on the engine and trim.
Three engine options
The Thar OG continues with three engine choices. The entry 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel produces about 87.2kW and 300Nm. The larger 2.2-litre mHawk diesel now makes 111.9kW and 330Nm, while the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol produces 119kW and 330Nm.
For buyers who mainly use the SUV in the city, the lower-priced rear-wheel-drive versions remain important. Enthusiasts looking for proper off-road ability can choose the 4WD versions with new terrain modes and an electronic locking differential.
What is new in the Thar OG?
The biggest changes are under the skin. Mahindra says the SUV is based on the M_Glyde 4G platform with higher structural stiffness. It also gets a rear PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link and new frequency-dependent damping. Electric power steering replaces the older hydraulic-style feel, which should make the SUV easier to handle in traffic and parking situations.
Mahindra has also added Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes on relevant 4WD variants. These work with the vehicle electronics to alter response depending on the surface.
Design and cabin updates
Visually, the Thar OG stays recognisable as a three-door Thar but gets a fresh grille, new circular LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lamps, redesigned bumpers, LED fog lamps and new 19-inch alloy wheels on the higher trims. New colours include Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue.
Inside, higher variants get Truffle Brown leatherette seats, a 10.25-inch class HD touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, wireless charging and a rear-view camera. Mahindra has also added small usability improvements such as a rear armrest, rear AC vents and a more refined cabin package.
Safety gets a meaningful upgrade
Safety is one of the important improvements. The top ZXT gets six airbags, all four disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring and front parking sensors. Electronic stability control and rollover mitigation are also part of the package on relevant variants.
Which Thar OG variant makes sense?
The AXT is clearly aimed at buyers who want the Thar look and basic ruggedness at the lowest possible price. The LXT should suit buyers who want more comfort and infotainment features without moving to the most expensive trims. The ZXT is the more complete package for buyers who want LED lighting, six airbags, larger alloy wheels and additional safety and convenience equipment.
For serious trail use, the 4WD diesel or petrol versions remain the more suitable choices. For mainly urban use, the rear-wheel-drive diesel can keep the purchase price lower while still giving the three-door Thar experience.
